She has also been a social worker in clinical practice for 35+ years. She currently works in private practice providing therapy and assessment services that cover a wide variety of emotional, behavioural, and mental health concerns for children, youth, and adults. Throughout her career, Arliss has been keenly aware of the inter-connectedness of mind, body, and spirit in recovery from adversity and trauma. This became even more evident in her work and personal life with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic that caused escalating anxiety, stress, grief, and burn out that affected people around the world. Like many during this global event, Arliss turned to yoga and meditation for her physical and mental well-being. This led her to study and become certified as a yoga teacher trained in Raja Yoga, also known as Patanjali’s Eight-Limbed Royal Path of Yoga. The eight limbs of yoga encompass the Yamas (avoidance of non-ethical actions) and Niyamas (engaging in positive personal actions); Asanas (physical postures), Pranayama (breath control), Pratyahara (sense withdrawal), Dharana (focused concentration), Dhyana (meditation), and Samadhi (blissful state). Arliss enthusiastically teaches and weaves together her knowledge of mental wellness with this ancient, foundational eastern yoga practice in her life and yoga classes. Arliss is registered with Yoga Alliance, the Manitoba College of Social Workers, and the Canadian Association of Social Workers.
